My Gnome themed Birthday Event

So last month I was invited to a Summerween party and thought it would be fun to rewear my EL wire Gnome costume. I also had a couple of friends that wanted to join me so I created a couple of gnome costumes for them as well. We looked great and wearing the costumes is a fun time for sure!

The outfits consist of a lace up bodice with a Peplum, a tutu, an over skirt and of course- a Gnome hat. The gnome hats are made from buckram with simple cotton coverings. I made the two costumes with shiny fabric for the bodice with a complementary cotton print for binding or for the peplum as you can see that both costumes are similar but not identical.

Well, we had a great time in the costumes- even made a surprise appearance at a friend's house party. I thought that it would be so much fun to get a bunch of people in gnome costumes and go around on the town. I had been thinking for a while of doing a costumed birthday event- maybe high tea at the Brown Palace (Denver Hotel). So I combined my ideas and decided on a Gnome/Insect/Fairy/Woodland Creature theme party. With some organizing help from my friends Maya and Rochelle we decided to do it the Saturday before my birthday at the Tavern Uptown. We also decided to walk from my home in Capitol Hill to the restaurant. On the way we ran into some Mormon missionaries and one wanted our picture- the other was afraid of us....but we did manage to get the photo with our new friend.

The folks at the Tavern Uptown were really great. They seemed to really enjoy our costumes, and our general tomfoolery! Our waiter Ritchie was really great and got in on some gnome action in the garden.I also made the lovely ladybug costume worn in the picture by my friend Jackie. Gotta give props to my non-gnome friends for having great costumes as well. I love seeing people's creativity bust out!

We were able to romp in a garden and had some gnomes in bushes and trees.

Big thanks to all my ladies! Had a wonderful birthday afternoon- and of course got to play dress up which may be my favorite thing to do.
